Property Lines
The property owner needs to be very cautious when viewing property lines online, whether it's Google maps, GIS maps, or the tax assessor's maps. These lines are mere approximations of their true location, which can be in error by several feet. Over the years, I have had countless calls from concerned property owners regarding building encroachments as viewed on these types of maps. The only way to accurately establish a property line is by hiring a California-licensed land surveyor to physically lay the line out on the ground. When I establish the property line on the ground, I set two or more point markers as needed. This allows the property owner or their contractor to run a string line between the point markers, thus giving them the true location of the property line.
